On the occasion of the 140th birth anniversary of Sardar
Vallabhbhai Patel on 31st October 2015, the Prime Minister of
India, Narendra Modi announced 'Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat'.
Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was the first Deputy Prime Minister of India who also
served as the Home Minister of the Union of India post- independence. His role
in the national integration of India during and after the India Pakistan division is
unprecedented. He personally oversaw the division of boundaries and assets
between India and Pakistan.
The main objective of the scheme is to promote National Integration among the
people of different states and union territories, by holding mutual cultural
exchange programs from time to time.
It also seeks to foster a sense of unity among the people by making them
understand each other's cultural and create an atmosphere of mutual learning
between the states and the UTS.
Ek Bharat Shreshth Bharat is an ambitious scheme that seeks to further
strengthen the existing unity among diverse cultural and religious groups of
India.
